Our woven goods from Mexico feature traditional Zapotec weaving methods dating back 2,000 years. Each item is handmade by artisans in Teotitlan del Valle, a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico. Artisans are given steady work and above-market wages, allowing them to provide a better life for their families.
The meticulous handmade process starts with wool being spun into yarn and colored using plant dyes. Once dried, the yarn is loom-woven into elaborate designs that reflect the culture behind the craft.

RWANDA
After the Rwandan genocide in 1994, women came together in weaving cooperatives to provide for their families and begin the healing process. Today, the traditional “agaseke” baskets have taken on the name, “peace baskets,” as a symbol of hope for the future. Artisans are given a comfortable work environment and paid a fair wage for each handmade basket. With the additional income, they’re able to invest in their businesses, pay for their childrens’ school fees, and set aside money to plan for the future.
